EZ trainee (m/f/d) for water resource management
You are applying for the development cooperation trainee program, a youth development program run by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Training is provided for German and multilateral development cooperation organizations . The program is implemented by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) on behalf of the BMZ.
The focus of the program is the expansion of management skills and the acquisition of work experience in program development and management of German development cooperation. The structure of the program enables you to get to know the structures, actors and functioning of development cooperation from different perspectives in on-the-job training .
During the 17-month training you will go through three practical phases . After the 1-month preparation, you start with the 8-month assignment in the above-mentioned function and country. You then choose a 3-month assignment at an international organization and end with a 5-month assignment at the BMZ.
The trainee remuneration is 1,900 gross/month.

Field of activity
As part of the trainee program, you will be employed in Tanzania for your 8-month assignment in "Climate resilience and water security in urban areas and their water catchment areas".
The project is part of the development cooperation program "Development of the water and wastewater sector in Tanzania". It aims to adapt water security in the catchment areas of secondary cities to the challenges of climate change. Water security will be enhanced through climate-resilient management of water resources in catchment areas and the development of climate-resilient infrastructure in urban areas. As a result, more people gain safe, hygienic and affordable access to water and sanitation (WSV) services, particularly in urban and peri-urban areas.
They will be integrated into GIZ's water programme, probably at the Dar es Salaam site. The areas of responsibility are to support the advice of the catchment area authorities (EZGB) regarding access to, management and use of data and information for climate-resilient water management. Other activities include support in the conception and establishment of new multi-stakeholder partnerships (water stewardship).
Your tasks
In the project work of the first practical phase, you will be involved in the following tasks.
- Support in the technical, content and organizational implementation of the order
- Participation in field visits, planning and implementation of surveys and/or short field studies
- Assistance in project planning, sustainability and operationalization
- Active operation of knowledge management for the project and in exchange with the specialist network Services on Water and Sanitation in Africa (SOWAS).
- Writing German and English articles for GIZ and partners, as well as creating presentations and publications
- Support in organizing events, business trips, delegation visits and conferences in Tanzania and abroad
The two subsequent practical phases and the tasks there are developed in the course of the EZ trainee program.
Your profile
You will bring these professional qualifications with you for the first practical phase:
- Studied hydrology, geography, environmental sciences, water management
- Focus of studies in water resource management,
- Necessary technical knowledge in the field of climate change adaptation
- Fluent language skills in German, English
