Senior Specialist: Scrum Master

Purpose

Responsible for enabling and supporting a squad to develop products utilising an Agile methodology, that integrates the business needs of the Chapter and removes any impediments inhibiting the squad from achieving their goals.

Minimum Experience

3 - 5 years experience in a similar environment, of which 1 -2 years at a junior specialist level

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor`s Degrees and Advanced Diplomas [NQF Level 07] in Information Technology and Computer Sciences

Process

  • Provide constructive and timeous feedback on work progress and problems encountered to relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure that all decisions taken are documented and available to the organisation.
  • Facilitates Scrum team events e.g. Daily Stand-Ups; Iteration Planning; Managing Backlogs; Iteration Retrospectives; etc.
  • Identify and remove any impediments that the squad experiences in achieving their goals.
  • Facilitate the squads progress toward squad goals through helping the team focus on daily and Iteration Goals.
  • Lead squad efforts in relentless improvement utilising appropriate problem-solving techniques.
  • Support the Product Owner to manage the backlog and guide the squad while facilitating a healthy team dynamic with respect to priorities and scope.
  • Promote Agile quality practices to assist the squad in constantly improving the quality of their deliverables and meeting the Definition of Done (DoD).
  • Coordinate interaction with other squads through participating in Scrum of Scrums meetings, and passing information from that meeting back to the squad.
  • Facilitate squad preparation and readiness for Programme events.
  • Guide the squad in establishing normalised estimates and help the squad understand how to estimate Features and Capabilities.
  • Support the squad through facilitating open communication channels within the squad as well as between the squad and the rest of the organisation.
  • Facilitate collective decision-making, goal-setting and conflict resolution within the squad.
  • Accountable for the improvement of quality, service and work outputs, continuously recommending improvements.
  • Plan for the organisation of work outputs and process improvement activities in light of a specific situational context related to the area of specialisation.
  • Proactively identify area of specialisation related problems, determine cause and effect and recommend the best option to implement corrective action based on previous experience.

Customer

  • Provide specialist expertise and advice to internal/external customers, that builds strong relationships and creates a favourable impression aligned to Treating the Customer Fairly (TCF) principles.

Finance

  • Adhere to financial controls, governance and compliance policies and processes throughout an area of specialisation, contributing to cost efficiency.

Learning and Growth

  • Coach squad improvement using Lean-Agile values, principles, and best practices.
  • Build a high-performing squad through focusing on ever-improving squad dynamics and performance.
  • Contribute positively to human capability improvement, related to knowledge optimisation and associated with area of specialisation.

Governance

  • Comply to risk and governance policies, implement and provide subject matter input to the development of related processes, applicable to the area of specialisation.
