Field of activity

The project to support pandemic prevention in the region of the East African Community (EAC) (PanPrep) strengthens the Secretariat of the East African Community in its coordinating and advisory role for the partner states in disease prevention and control. The focus is on (1) preventing and combating infectious diseases and other events relevant to public health, (2) risk and crisis communication and (3) anchoring the One Health approach in the East African community. Together with the EAC Secretariat, the project creates the legal framework for the work and supports implementation. PanPrep is hands-on, with an emphasis on capacity building. The project works closely with the 6 EAC partner countries and a large number of regional and international institutions and organizations. A follow-up project is in preparation with the start of implementation in September 2022.

Your tasks

  • Assignment and personnel responsibility for the project as well as implementation responsibility (including personnel responsibility) for a service package of the global project 'Pandemic Prevention, Response, One Health', which is being implemented together with the EAC Secretariat
  • Management and quality control of the service provision of a subcontractor (consulting company)
  • Technical and process advice to the political partner EAC Secretariat, ie the responsible management level and specialist department
  • Preparation of the implementation of the follow-up module in close cooperation with the submitting AV, the EAC secretariat, the cluster coordination and the country office
  • Strategic further development of the order with a view to possible synergies with global projects, other implementers and donors (e.g. EU as well as possible acquisition of co-financing).
  • Close cross-sectoral cooperation with the EAC partner states as well as with regional and international institutions and organizations
  • Member of the cluster management team and support of the cluster coordination in dialogue with the regional directorate, the German embassy and the BMZ
  • Knowledge management and exchange with partners, other donors and networks

your profile

  • Master's degree or doctorate in medicine, veterinary medicine, health sciences, public health, food safety or a related field relevant to One Health
  • Several years of management experience as well as several years of relevant professional experience, if possible acquired abroad, in the management of projects in German and / or international development cooperation as well as in advising partner institutions and in cooperation with international organizations
  • Several years of practical work experience in developing countries, ideally in disease prevention and control, in One Health or another subject area relevant to the project
  • Familiarity with the goals, concepts, methods and institutions of international cooperation in the areas of pandemic prevention and control, one health and global health
  • Work or cooperation experience with global and / or regional / pan-African projects is an advantage
  • High communication, consulting, cooperation and negotiation as well as intercultural competence
  • Authenticity, independence and reliability, performance and goal orientation as well as the willingness to work in a multicultural team
  • Proficient in German and English; Knowledge of French or Swahili is an advantage
