The Poultry Farm Manager oversees all aspects of poultry farm operations, ensuring efficient production, animal welfare, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards. They are responsible for managing staff, maintaining facilities, overseeing breeding programs, and maximizing profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operations Management:
* Supervise day-to-day operations of the poultry farm, including feeding, watering, and monitoring the health of the birds.
* Implement best practices for poultry farming, ensuring optimal growth, egg production, and meat quality.
* Monitor environmental conditions such as temperature, ventilation, and lighting to create a conducive habitat for the birds.
* Overlook the production of the feedmill.
* Responsible for management of farm operations to meet production standards and quality expectations.
* Carry out all management procedures required for a healthy flock, including disinfection, rearing, debeaking, vaccinations, monitor animal health and welfare, including liaising with vets
* Maintain a knowledge of pests and diseases and an understanding of how they spread and how to treat them
* Respond to alarm calls quickly and efficiently.
* Develop and maintain departmental systems and SOPs.
2. Staff Management:
* Recruit, train, and supervise farm staff, delegating tasks and ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures.
* Schedule work assignments, manage employee performance, and provide ongoing training and development opportunities.
* Participate in and train staff on poultry husbandry duties, plan activities for trainee staff, mentoring and monitoring them
3. Health and Safety Compliance:
* Ensure compliance with health, safety, and biosecurity protocols to prevent disease outbreaks and ensure the well-being of both the birds and farm workers.
* Implement proper waste management procedures to maintain cleanliness and hygiene on the farm.
4. Financial Management:
* Develop and manage budgets for the farm, including expenses related to feed, equipment, and labor.
* Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as feed conversion ratio, mortality rate, and production yields to optimize profitability.
5. Quality Assurance:
* Maintain high standards of product quality and hygiene, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and customer requirements.
* Implement quality control measures to detect and address issues related to disease, contamination, or product defects.
6. Breeding and Genetics:
* Oversee programs to improve production, feed efficiency, and disease resistance.
7. Record Keeping and Reporting:
* Maintain accurate records of farm activities, including inventory, production data, and financial transactions.
* Prepare reports for management on key performance metrics, operational challenges, and strategic recommendations.
Qualifications For Poultry Farm Manager:
* Bachelors degree in agriculture, animal science, or related field.
* Previous experience in poultry farm management or a similar role.
* Strong leadership and communication skills.
* Knowledge of poultry nutrition, genetics, and disease management.
* Ability to work independently and make informed decisions.
* Proficiency in farm management software and Microsoft Office applications.
* An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
* Must be able to understand equipment operation and maintenance; Must be available to work any of the 7 days a week and holidays; Good written and verbal communication skills, with IT knowledge.
